Murdoch to block Google from indexing content ? So what?

</p> <p>There has been a bit of a kerfuffle over Rupert Murdoch?s plans to prevent Google from indexing his newspapers? online editions.</p> <p>Not only that, talk of him charging visitors for the privilege of reading online versions of News Corporation stories has been met with distain.</p> <p>So what, I say ? more chance for everyone else! By removing the presence of The Times, The New York Post, The Sun and The Sunday Times (to name but a few) it leaves the door open for other independent websites to get their content indexed quicker and ranked higher.</p> <p>Quality content is king and this latest development provides companies that update their site with regular news and blogs with a chance to exploit News Corps? lack of presence in Google.</p> <p>It?s difficult to judge whether or not Murdoch?s plan of action will lead to greater profits for News Corp, but one thing?s for sure, it offers everyone else a great opportunity to profit from it.</p> <p>

In a recent social networking study released by ComScore, the Netherlands takes the prize of being the country with the highest number of users on both Twitter and LinkedIn.</p> <p>According to the study, 26.8 per cent of the Dutch have a Twitter account while 26.1 per cent are on LinkedIn.</p>

Deals, social media content site Facebook?s answer to Groupon, is launching in five US cities today, including San Francisco, California, Dallas, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia.</p> <p>As told to the New York Times late yesterday, with Deals, Facebook hopes to be able to use the status updates, Likes and communications between users to provide a service that is more tailored and compelling than those of the likes of Living Social and Groupon.</p> <p>Emily White, Facebook?s director for local content, told the NYT that the new service will focus on offers best used by groups of friends ?such as concerts or other events.</p> <p>?You can receive Facebook deals via email,? she said.</p>
